Corporate Carbon Footprint (ISO 14064)

We calculate your corporate carbon footprint down to Scope 1, 2 and 3 sources and deliver an ISO 14064 compliant, audit-ready report.

Your carbon data is now asked for at every table

The corporate carbon footprint has become a natural part of commercial relationships. Large buyers ask their suppliers for emissions data, banks ask for it in green finance assessments, and every organisation preparing a sustainability report begins with this calculation. When the question comes, having a reliable and verifiable emissions inventory to hand is a competitive advantage in itself.

To produce that data, all you need to do is place the process in the right hands. Karbonsa calculates your carbon footprint down to Scope 1, 2 and 3 sources, prepares your ISO 14064 compliant report and runs the whole process on your behalf, from end to end, through to independent verification.

WHAT IT BRINGS YOU

What do you gain by measuring your carbon footprint?

  • Becoming the preferred party with large buyers and in tender processes that ask for carbon data.
  • A strong position in green finance and investor assessments.
  • An audit-ready, verifiable inventory in the face of reporting expectations.
  • A solid starting point for cutting emissions and bringing energy costs down.
GHG Protocol

Emissions are measured in three scopes

The GHG Protocol splits corporate emissions into three scopes according to their source, and a sound inventory takes all three into account together.

Scope 1

Direct emissions

Emissions released directly from sources your company owns or controls. Natural gas and fuel combustion, production processes, company vehicles and refrigerant leaks all fall within this scope.

Scope 2

Purchased energy

Indirect emissions from generating the electricity, steam, heating and cooling you buy in. Grid electricity consumption is the most typical example.

Scope 3

Value chain

All indirect emissions outside Scope 1 and 2. They spread across fifteen categories, including purchased goods and services, logistics, business travel and the use of sold products, and in most companies they make up the largest share of the total footprint.

Note: Scope 3 is usually the largest and the hardest part to measure, because most of the data comes from your suppliers. We build this side together with our Supply Chain Sustainability service, making supplier carbon data possible to collect.

We run the process in six steps

We complete your corporate carbon footprint work on your behalf, from the kick off meeting through to verification, in steps that are traceable and repeatable.

01

Kick off meeting

We set your objective, your organisational boundary and the reporting period together, and draw up the data collection plan.

02

Site visit and data collection

We examine your production facility on site, identify direct and indirect emission sources with our engineers and gather activity data at source.

03

Emissions calculation

We convert Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions into carbon dioxide equivalent using recognised emission factors, and document assumptions and uncertainties transparently.

04

ISO 14064 compliant reporting

We bring the results together in the ISO 14064-1 format, in a report that is audit-ready and can be presented to your stakeholders.

05

Verification readiness

We prepare your evidence set for the independent verification an accredited body will carry out under ISO 14064-3, and accompany you through the process.

06

Move to Karbonsa Platform

If you wish, we move your inventory into your web based Karbonsa Platform account. You then manage the following periods yourself, starting with the free plan.

Your corporate inventory is also the foundation for other work. To measure the environmental impact of your products at product level, take a look at Life Cycle Assessment, and for the sustainability report you will present to your stakeholders, see our Sustainability Reporting page. If you export to the EU, our CBAM Advisory page may also be of interest.

KARBONSA PLATFORM

Would you rather manage your emissions yourself?

Karbonsa Platform is a web based product with which companies manage their carbon emissions and sustainability data on their own. If you are looking for corporate carbon and sustainability software you can start right away with the free plan, set your inventory up online and update it from the same place every year. You can use it alongside our consultancy or entirely on its own.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the corporate carbon footprint

A corporate carbon footprint is calculated by adding up the greenhouse gas emissions caused by a company's activities over a given period. The organisational boundary is drawn first, then Scope 1, 2 and 3 emission sources are identified, activity data such as fuel, electricity, production and logistics is collected, and it is converted into carbon dioxide equivalent using recognised emission factors. Karbonsa runs this process in line with ISO 14064, based on real data gathered at your facility.
